Domain & transformation
University of Münster
Master’s-level lecture with integrated exercise in the Business Process major of the M.Sc. Information Systems. The course examines information systems across production and retail, including core processes, enterprise systems, and digital transformation. In the exercise, students develop a transformation concept for a company and derive suitable digital solutions.
Research-led design of emerging technology
University of Münster
Master’s-level research seminar on the design of conversational agents. Students move from research insights to design knowledge and working prototypes, exploring how interaction, adaptation, agency, and relational qualities can be deliberately designed and evaluated.
Real-world problem solving with industry
University of Münster
Project-based seminar in collaboration with the Sparkassen Finance Group. Bachelor’s and Master’s students work on real-world challenges at the intersection of business and digital technology, moving from problem analysis and requirements to the development of concrete digital solution concepts.
Research methodology & design knowledge

PhD course on Design Science Research as a design-oriented research paradigm. The course covers problem framing, artifact design and evaluation, and the development of prescriptive design knowledge, with a particular focus on positioning and communicating design-oriented research contributions. Taught at TU Braunschweig (2021 & 2022), LUT University (2024), DHBW (2026), and the University of Münster (2025 & 2026).

Although my dissertation is not in the area of Information Systems, the course showed me that DSR can be a useful framework. In particular, the appreciation of an artifact and its embedding in a ratio of requirements and a basis from the state of the art was eye-opening for me.
The PhD course helped me enormously to close the many knowledge gaps I still had on Design Science Research. Both the exchange in a small group and the constructive feedback on my own research project were extremely valuable.
Above all, it is worth emphasizing how he was able to give you food for thought. After our discussions, I always had new ideas about which aspects I could contribute without him demanding them.
Then the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic came in March and everything became completely different. In this particular situation, Timo’s support was worth its weight in gold. With his calm manner, he helped me to change the concept at short notice.
He sets high quality standards both for the students and for his own supervision. Through his constructively expressed criticism of my own work results, I was able to gain valuable insights for my further academic career.
Despite his friendly and personal way of communicating, Mr. Strohmann managed to attach great importance to correct scientific work and to sharpen our understanding of this.
Supervision
I supervise bachelor’s and master’s theses and mentor doctoral researchers. In the German University Foundation’s “Welcome” programme, I support students from refugee backgrounds.
